My practice spans video production, still photography, and installation. Building on recent underwater filming in the River Lee and Cork Harbour, where Spike Island lies, I explore these ever-changing, interconnected waterways and their layered histories.
The recordings evoke a sense of being submerged and held beneath the surface, reflecting the island’s history as a prison and its role in convict transportation. For me, the water symbolises the only route of escape from the island, yet it carries its own unpredictable dangers, creating a tension between confinement and freedom.
